Sandakphu or Sandakpur (3636 m/11,930 ft) is a high summit on the India-Nepal boundary on the Singalila Ridge. It is the highest peak on the ridge and is located in the Indian state of West Bengal. The mountain is situated on the outskirts of the Singalila National Park, with a tiny settlement and a few hotels on the summit.
Facts about Sandakphu
Sandakphu literally translates to “the highest point of deadly plants.” This is due to the prevalence of aconite plants in this area. Visitors may relax since they are only dangerous when swallowed. It’s also home to the only rhododendron and silver fir woods on the planet.
From its top, you can view Everest, Kangchenjunga, Lhotse, and Makalu, four of the world’s five tallest peaks and to the east, you can see the Tibetan peaks of Narsing, Dongkya, and Chola.
Due to the stunning panoramas of the Kangchenjunga and Everest ranges that can be viewed from the ridge, the walk up the Singalila Ridge to Sandakphu and Phalut is one of the most popular in the Eastern Himalayas. On the Sandakphu River, you may go river rafting on the gushing River Teesta.
