This is a well-known tribe that is well ahead of patriarchal ideals. Children of this tribe inherit their mothers’ surnames, and property is passed down via the matrilineal lineages as well. It has been designated as a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The live route bridges are a unique occurrence.
