ORGAN DONATION AWARENESS WEEK

World Organ Donation Day is celebrated on 13th August every year.

Organ donation refers to when an individual allows his/her organ(s) to be removed, legitimately, with their consent while they are alive or with the consent of their close relative if the donor is dead. Organs can be donated either by living or deceased donors.

Aim of Organ Donation Day:

  • The aim is to raise awareness about the significance of organ donation and to encourage more people towards organ donation in their life.
  • Donating an organ or tissue is regarded as highly respected, as every organ donation is a gift of life for somebody in need.
  • One organ donor can save up to 8 lives by donating organs such as one heart, two lungs, one liver, one pancreas, two kidneys, and intestines.
